Dr. Andrew Dold was inducted into the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) at the AOA’s 137th Annual Leadership Meeting in St. Louis, as part of the Class of 2023. Founded in 1887, the AOA is the oldest orthopaedic association in the United States and focuses on leadership in orthopaedic surgery.
“This is a great honor for me at what I feel is an early stage of my career,” Dr. Dold said. “My desire to get better and keep improving for my patients burns deeply, and I promise to never lose this commitment.”
Dr. Dold now uses the credential FAOA (Fellow, American Orthopaedic Association).
What AOA membership means
Membership in the AOA is earned, not applied for. A candidate must be nominated by an AOA member, with a letter of support from a second member, then go through what the AOA calls “a stringent peer-reviewed process.” According to the AOA, fewer than 10% of practicing orthopaedic surgeons have achieved AOA membership. The FAOA designation, in the AOA’s words, means a surgeon “has achieved recognition for exceptional accomplishments and leadership in the orthopedic specialty.”
