Knee and hip care for Carrollton adults

Many Carrollton patients see Dr. Dold for knee or hip arthritis, or for a second opinion after being told they need a joint replacement. He starts with non-surgical care when it is likely to work, and recommends surgery when the evidence and your goals support it.

When knee replacement makes sense

For advanced knee arthritis, knee replacement can make a large difference. In a randomized trial, patients who had knee replacement plus a non-surgical program had more pain relief and better function at one year than those who had the program alone, though with more complications.1 Registry data suggest that most knee replacements last 15 to 25 years.2 Dr. Dold performs robotic-assisted knee replacement, usually as same-day outpatient surgery.

Direct anterior hip replacement

For advanced hip arthritis, Dr. Dold performs direct anterior hip replacement. In a randomized trial, patients stopped using walking aids sooner after the anterior approach than after a posterior approach.3

Broken ankles in older adults

Not every broken ankle needs surgery. In a randomized trial of adults aged 60 and older with unstable ankle fractures, a carefully molded close-contact cast gave similar function at six months to surgery, although more fractures in the cast group healed slightly out of position.4 Dr. Dold will explain which option fits your fracture and your health. See fracture care.

Carrollton athletes

Dr. Dold also treats high school and club athletes from Carrollton, including students at Creekview, Newman Smith and R.L. Turner high schools in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and at Hebron High School in Lewisville ISD. He has cared for athletes from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, PGA Tour, Major League Rugby and USA Gymnastics.
